The Donald, son, others get gun permits

NEW YORK, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Donald Trump Jr. has joined his famous dad and others among the ranks of the rich and famous who can pack heat in New York.

The New York Police Department issued the younger Trump a license to keep a handgun in his home, and also issued a gun permit to Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore, The New York Post reported Wednesday.

DiFiore joins Queens District Attorney Richard Brown as the only local DAs with gun permits.

In a bit of irony, New York Police Department Commissioner Howard Safir let his license lapse.

Other pistol-packing celebrities include actors and longtime permit-holders Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel, film producer Martin Bregman, cosmetics heir Ronald Lauder, music producer Tommy Mottola and Marvel Comics chief Isaac Perlmutter. Shock jocks Howard Stern and Don Imus also have gun permits.

Overall, the number of registered gun owners is down, the newspaper reported. Licenses fell to just over 36,000 this year from more than 38,000 last year.
