MODENA, Italy, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti reportedly could be back home in a few days after being hospitalized for a fever in his hometown of Modena.
Hospital officials said Pavarotti was being treated in a cancer ward and it was likely the tenor could be discharged, the British newspaper The Independent reported Friday.

Pavarotti's manager, Terri Robson, said the singer was in a stable condition. The hospital declined to comment on an earlier report that Pavarotti was suffering from pneumonia.
Pavarotti's wife, Nicoletta Mantovani, visited him Thursday. A nurse told reporters that the tenor had a "big desire" to get better, it was reported.
Pavarotti underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer in July 2006.
