PARIS, July 6 (UPI) -- Actress Eva Longoria and San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker were married Friday at Paris City Hall, with a lavish church wedding and reception on tap.
The basketball star and "Desperate Housewives" star became husband and wife at a civil ceremony -- required by French law -- at the city building in Place Baudoyer, not far from Notre Dame Cathedral, People magazine reported.
"They were married here by the Mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe," said a representative for the Fourth Arrondissement district.
The ceremony was attended by only a few family members and friends.
"Their international reputations cannot escape me," said Delanoe, "but for me they are just Eva and Tony -- two young people, very appealing, who love each other and who are at a very important moment in their life."
The newlyweds will re-state their vows Saturday in a ceremony at the Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois.
