ABC News takes quarter ratings

NEW YORK, July 4 (UPI) -- ABC News' "World News" won its first quarter in more than a decade as anchor Charles Gibson topped NBC's Brian Williams in the U.S. evening news ratings.

For the April-May-June period, "World News with Charles Gibson" averaged 8 million viewers, NBC's "Nightly News with Brian Williams" drew 7.5 million and CBS' "Evening News with Katie Couric" pulled 6.1 million, Variety reported Tuesday.

The ABC evening newscast was the only one to increase viewers during the period, showing an increase of 7 percent. NBC's news viewership fell 4 percent while CBS dropped 9 percent.
