Last Potter films lucrative for Radcliffe

LONDON, June 29 (UPI) -- British actor Daniel Radcliffe has performed some monetary magic, signing a $50 million deal to star in the final two "Harry Potter" films.

He'll be paid $25 million per performance for the screen adaptations of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

Radcliffe told the Daily Mail such princely sums give him room to explore other acting possibilities.

"Obviously, I'm in a very fortunate position where I don't have to do things for the money," he said. "I can simply do them because there's an interesting character and a good director involved."

After he launches the latest Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" in Tokyo, London, Los Angeles and New York, Radcliffe will join David Haig and Kim Cattrall in the World War I drama "My Boy Jack."

He said he also plans to perform on Broadway in "Equus." His portrayal of Alan Strang in a London revival of the play in February generated controversy when the boy wizard appeared nude.

Of the chance to perform on Broadway, Radcliffe said, "It would be very hard to turn it down, certainly."
