Laila Ali stars in documentary

LOS ANGELES, June 17 (UPI) -- Laila Ali is the star of "Daddy's Girl," a TV One documentary about her relationship with her father, legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.

Ali, 29, told People magazine that although the documentary was ready for release Sunday, it may have come too soon.

"I felt like maybe it was too soon to do a documentary about the story of my life," she said. "Now I see that this documents a period of time in my life and it gives people a chance to see another side of me."

She also explained she hadn't always wanted to be a boxer -- it wasn't until she turned 18 and saw women's boxing on TV that she decided to do it.

As for her father's reaction to her becoming a boxer, she said he had mixed feelings.

"He was going to support me, but he definitely tried to talk me out of it, and still is not comfortable with it 100 percent," she said. "He will be happy when I retire."

She also touched on the subject of her father's career, saying, "It's just a part of history: his history and my history."
