'Apprentice' winner didn't expect victory

LONDON, June 14 (UPI) -- The winner of Britain's "Apprentice" said Thursday in London that he had expected his rival in the finals to win the show.

British businessman Alan Sugar picked Simon Ambrose to be his new "Apprentice" on Wednesday's finale of the BBC One show, placing him in a nearly $200,000 a-year job, the Times of London reported.

Ambrose appeared on "BBC Breakfast" Thursday morning, saying: "Up to the 11th hour I thought Kristina (Grimes) was going to walk it. We have seen her deliver week after week. She's a fantastic leader."

But Ambrose, 27, said he plans to prove that Sugar made the right decision.

"He's an entrepreneur, he has taken risks all his life. He is taking a risk with me and hopefully I will deliver," Ambrose told the BBC.

Sugar said the decision between Ambrose and Grimes was the toughest one he's had to make on the program and said the job he had in mind needed "someone with a good education."
