Bollywood comes to Britain this weekend

SHEFFIELD, England, June 8 (UPI) -- India's film industry will be showcased at sites throughout England this weekend, with premieres and the International Indian Film Academy Awards planned.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday in Sheffield. Nominated in the best picture category are: "Dhoom 2," "Krrish," "Rang de Basanti," "Lage Raho Munnabhai," "Vivaah" and "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" -- the best grossing Bollywood film at the British box office in 2006 -- Variety reported Thursday.


"Rang de Basanti" leads all nominees with 15 nods.

Screenings scheduled in four cities include the world premiere of Hasnain S. Hydrabadwala's "The Train" and the British debut of "Rang De Basanti."

Among celebrities expected to attend are Amitabh Bachchan, and husband-and-wife team Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.

Besides Sheffield, the other venues are Bradford, Leeds and Hull.
