Country legend comes back with new album

NASHVILLE, June 5 (UPI) -- Nashville country music legend Porter Wagoner finds himself making a kind of comeback on his new album.

"Wagonmaster" is the 79-year-old singer, songwriter and bandleader's first country album in seven years, following a series of gospel releases. It was produced by fellow country musician Marty Stuart.

"I just want the record to be the best one I've ever done, because it could be the last one I ever do," said Wagoner, who suffered an abdominal aneurysm last July.

"I feel like you should get better all the time and I try to do that. I try to improve my stage appearance and improve the songs that I write and perform on stage. I just try to keep getting better as the years go by."

"Wagonmaster" includes a version of "My Many Hurried Southern Trips," which Wagoner co-wrote with onetime protege Dolly Parton, and "Committed to Parkview," which was written especially for him by Johnny Cash.
