Bo Diddley improves after stroke

OMAHA, May 18 (UPI) -- Rock pioneer Bo Diddley's condition has improved since he suffered a stroke earlier this week, said doctors at the Omaha, Neb., hospital where he is a patient.

Four days after having a stroke while performing May 13, the 78-year-old rocker was ambulatory in the intensive care unit at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Voice of America reported Friday.

Margo Lewis, his manager, said Diddley's speech remains affected.

"We're going to get a guitar for him and put it in his lap and let him entertain people here," Lewis said. "People think that would be good therapy for him."

Lewis said it was unknown how long Diddley, with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure, would remain in the hospital.

Diddley is a 1987 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. He received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 1998.
