'Spring Awakening' leads Tony nods with 11

NEW YORK, May 15 (UPI) -- "Spring Awakening," the off-Broadway hit musical that moved to New York's Great White Way, captured 11 Tony Award nominations, the most of any play this year.

Following "Spring Awakening" was the Tom Stoppard trilogy "The Coast of Utopia" and the musical "Gray Gardens," which received 10 nominations each during the 2006-07 Tony Award nomination announcement Tuesday at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

Nominated for best play were "The Coast of Utopia," "Frost/Nixon," The Little Dog Laughed" and "Radio Golf."

Best musical nominees were "Curtains," "Grey Gardens," "Mary Poppins" and "Spring Awakening."

In the best revival of a play category, the nominees were "Inherit the Wind," "Journey's End," "Talk Radio" and "Translations."

"The Apple Tree," "A Chorus Line," "Company" and "110 in the Shade" were nominated for best revival of a Musical.

The 61st annual Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards will be presented June 10 at Radio City Music Hall.
