NEW YORK, May 11 (UPI) -- Filmmaker Ken Burns has agreed to use more material about Latino contributions to America's efforts during World War II in his documentary "The War."
After a meeting in New York, activists from the American GI Forum and the Hispanic Association of Corporate Responsibility said they were satisfied Burns would include interviews and other material about Latino American veterans within the 14-hour, seven-part documentary set to air on PBS in September, The Washington Post reported Friday.
The two groups had expressed concern that these accounts would be aired as a supplement or at the end of the documentary.
Activist groups, elected officials and several corporate underwriters had criticized Burns about the lack of Latino representation in the film, which focuses on the wartime experiences of people in four U.S. towns.
Burns said Thursday the new content was "an additional layer of storytelling" that would not affect his vision of the documentary.
