The Police will play hits on reunion tour

SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 8 (UPI) -- The Police plan to play the hits when the reunited British rock trio opens the group's first tour since 1994 this month.

"We've got about a two-hour show lined up of famous songs, basically," guitarist Andy Summers said. "We're not doing anything really obscure. There's so much good material that is all kind of world-famous, and we can have a lot of fun playing it."

The Police last toured together in 1994 and has regrouped only a couple of times since then. The group -- Summers, singer-bassist Sting and drummer Stewart Copeland -- is in Vancouver this week, where the tour starts on May 28, to begin final preparations.

Summers says the group will be on the road into 2008. A new compilation, "The Police," comes out on June 5.

Summers, meanwhile, will celebrate the band with a paperback edition of his 2006 memoir, "One Train Later," the publication of a photo book, "I'll Be Watching You: Inside the Police 1980-83," and Fender's release of the Andy Summers Tribute Telecaster, a limited-edition replica of the 1961 instrument that's been his main guitar with the Police.
