'NCIS' creator leaves the show

LOS ANGELES, May 6 (UPI) -- The creator and executive producer of CBS's "NCIS," Don Bellisario, is reportedly leaving the Los Angeles show to work on other projects.

Bellisario will now be working on a few projects he has in development at CBS Paramount Network Television, the details of which have not been released, said The Hollywood Reporter Sunday.

Bellisario's resignation from the show comes amid reports of animosity between the producer and the show's star, Mark Harmon, as well as other people affiliated with the show, The Reporter said.

"NCIS" co-executive producer Chas Floyd Johnson and head writer Shane Brennan are expected to step into Bellisario's role at the top of the show.

CBS Paramount President David Stapf praised Bellisario for his "NCIS" efforts and said the studio looks "forward to developing his next generation of projects."
