Chow Yun-fat jumps off 'Red Cliff'

BEIJING, April 17 (UPI) -- John Woo is unexpectedly looking for a new leading man for his "Red Cliff" project after Chow Yun-fat skipped out three days into shooting near Beijing.

"We are reworking our schedule right now as we have to shoot around the absent leading man," said Terence Chang, the film's producer and Woo's partner in Lion Rock Entertainment. Work on the movie project started last weekend, Variety reported Tuesday.

The newspaper said reports were circulating that Chow made "unreasonable demands" that exceeded industry standards. It also was reported that Chow said he only received a final script a few days ago and was not sure he would do justice to the character. The $70 million budget for the movie is the biggest in Chinese history. It is Woo's first Chinese-language film after a long Hollywood career that included "Face/Off" and "Mission: Impossible 2."
