CNN morning show anchors to be replaced

ATLANTA, April 4 (UPI) -- CNN is replacing both of its "American Morning" anchors with new hires in hopes of shoring up the show's ratings, sources at the Atlanta-based network say.

Out are Soledad O'Brien and Miles O'Brien (not related), The Washington Post reported Wednesday, making way for John Roberts, a former CBS anchor and correspondent, and Kiran Chetry, who recently moved to CNN from Fox News.

A CNN spokeswoman declined to comment on the changes at "American Morning." CNN sources confirming to the Post that "American Morning" was being revisited did not want to be identified while discussing personnel changes that haven't been made public.

Both O'Briens are being offered correspondent positions and are expected by network insiders to stay at CNN, the Post reported.

Roberts, who left CBS last year, has filled in as an anchor on "American Morning," "Anderson Cooper 360" and other programs, and regularly hosts CNN's "This Week at War."

Chetry signed with CNN in February after Fox declined to renew her contract.

Miles O'Brien was paired with Soledad O'Brien in 2005.
