'Family Ties' star Brian Bonsall arrested

BOULDER, Colo., March 31 (UPI) -- Former "Family Ties" actor Brian Bonsall, 25, and his girlfriend, Lindsay Dunavan, were both arrested in Boulder, Colo., on suspicion of domestic violence.

Bonsall now faces felony charges of second-degree assault and misdemeanor false imprisonment after he allegedly poured an alcoholic drink in Dunavan's face as she slept, put her in a choke hold and threw her onto a bed several times when she tried to escape, The Boulder Daily Camera reported Saturday.

Bonsall said that he threw Dunavan down in self-defense after she slashed his arm and face with a steak knife, but Dunavan denies slashing him.

The police originally arrested both of them but let Dunavan go about an hour later.

Boulder police Detective Colleen Wilcox said officials released her after it became questionable whether enough probable cause existed to arrest Dunavan, and officers were looking at Bonsall as the "prominent aggressor" in the case.

Bonsall is stuck at the Boulder County Jail with a $5,000 bond and is expected to be formally charged Tuesday.
