Royal jewel collection gains 3 necklaces

LONDON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The Duchess of Cornwall's jewelry collection has increased by three necklaces of different jewels presented by the Saudi Royal Family.

According to the official list of gifts given to her and Prince Charles during their recent overseas tours, Camilla received necklaces of rubies, emeralds and sapphires, the Telegraph said Monday.

The royal couple, halfway through a 10-day tour of Gulf countries, also received a gold Arabian sword in a gold-plated and jewel-encrusted scabbard from the King of Bahrain.

Strict rules govern the receiving of gifts by members of the British royal family. Gifts are defined as official when received during an official engagement or duty, and are all recorded. They can be worn and used but not be sold or exchanged.

Eventually the gifts become part of the Royal Collection of pictures, furniture, jewelry, dresses and other items that are regularly exhibited.
