Mirren 'Queen' of Oscars

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Helen Mirren's portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II reigned supreme during the award season, capped Sunday with an Oscar at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

"This is the biggest and best gold star I've ever won in my life," she said as she accepted the best actress Oscar for "The Queen."

Recognizing the queen's 50 years on the throne, Mirren said, "I salute her courage and consistency."

Holding the statuette aloft, Mirren said: "Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the queen!"
