Queen may watch Run for the Roses

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Queen Elizabeth II might be among the thousands urging a horse to victory at the 133rd Kentucky Derby in Louisville, the Secret Service said Friday.

Paul Johnson -- special agent in charge of the agency's Louisville field office -- said he was unable to confirm details, but acknowledged the queen would be in Louisville at that time, so a trip to Churchill Downs May 5 would be a logical stop, the Louisville Courier-Journal said.

"Right now all we've been informed of is that we should expect a visit from the queen the first weekend in May," Johnson told the newspaper. "We're kind of filling in the blanks with some assumptions."

Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, will visit the United States in early May to mark the 400th anniversary of the settlement of Jamestown, Va.

The queen Elizabeth has visited Kentucky at least for other times, but has never attended a Run for the Roses.
