Van Halen confirms Roth as tour singer

NEW YORK, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Van Halen's publicist has confirmed recent reports that the U.S. rock group will reunite with former lead singer David Lee Roth for its upcoming summer tour.

A recent statement released by the "You Really Got Me" rockers confirmed that Roth will indeed join the group for the first time since 1984 on the tour, whose dates and locations Billboard.com said have yet to be determined.

"I am very excited to get back to the core of what made Van Halen," guitarist Eddie Van Halen said of the move.

Meanwhile, taking over for original bassist Michael Anthony on the summer tour, which will feature 40 concerts, will be Eddie's 15-year-old son, Wolfgang.

The highly anticipated tour, which will follow other reunion tours from Crowded House and the Police, will mark the first time Van Halen has toured since 2004.

That tour grossed $40 million with vocalist Sammy Hagar serving as the band's lead singer and ended with Hagar vowing to never perform with the Van Halen brothers again, the Web site said.
