'Today' to grow by one hour in fall

NEW YORK, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Morning news junkies across the United States can get an extra hour of NBC's top-rated "Today" show in September, when it expands from three hours to four.

NBC executives formally announced the expansion Wednesday, Zap2it.com said.

A decision on who will anchor the fourth hour hasn't been made, said NBC News President Steve Capus. Meredith Vieira, because of her contract as host of a syndicated game show, doesn't appear on "Today" after 9 a.m.

Jim Bell, executive producer for "Today," said the network will announce the on-air talent for the additional hour closer to its start date.

Capus and Bell said they hope at least half of NBC's affiliate stations will carry the fourth hour.
