Leon returning to Broadway with 'Tin Roof'

NEW YORK, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Stage director Kenny Leon is set to offer Broadway audiences a fourth production with an upcoming rendition of Tennessee Williams' "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

With a tentative launch date during the 2007-08 season, Leon's newest stage production will not only offer fans the chance to see the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, but will act as a dream come true for the famed director, Playbill said.

"I've studied Tennessee Williams all my life," said Leon, whose production will have an African-American cast, "but when five or six Williams plays were done in New York over a two-year period recently, they did not call out to an African-American director to direct them."

Leon recently completed a Broadway revival of "A Raisin in the Sun" starring music mogul Sean Combs and has also headed up area productions of playwright August Wilson's "Radio Golf" and "The Gem of the Ocean."

Playbill said that the last time "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" enjoyed a Broadway run was during the 2003-04 season under director Anthony Page.
