Christmas Jam benefit hits 18th year

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Habitat For Humanity will be the beneficiary of a long-lived charity rock show this weekend in North Carolina.

Allman Brothers Band guitarist Warren Haynes will present his 18th annual Christmas Jam on Saturday at the Asheville Civic Center, preceded by a Christmas Jam Pre-Jam on Friday at a club called the Orange Peel.

Haynes' guests at the benefit include Dave Matthews, Branford Marsalis, Marty Stuart, the New Orleans Social Club and the Taj Mahal Trio.

"The list of people that we're contacting is so varied, from folk artists to bluegrass to jazz to rock 'n' roll," Haynes said. "I think it's great 'cause if a show's going to go from 7 p.m. to 2 or 3 in the morning, it's good to have a lot of different types of music."

Haynes' other band, Gov't Mule, is also on the bill.
