LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Georgia State Board of Education supported a decision on Thursday by an area county to not remove all "Harry Potter" novels from its school library.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday's ruling by the state officials reinforced a decision by the Gwinnett County Board of Education regarding a parent's opposition to the popular children's novels.
Laura Mallory, a mother from Loganville, had complained that the books were inappropriate for her child and had taken her case to the state board after other state and county officials refused a proposed ban.
"The standard of review we have is limited in scope," Brad Bryant, a member of the state board, said of the decision. "A lot of folks would like for us to get into whether or not this is a substantive matter to us. That is just not where we are as a state Board of Education."
The paper said that Mallory may continue her legal fight against "Potter" by appealing the state board's decision to Gwinnett Superior Court.
