Piper: Beckham not appropriate role model

LONDON, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- British actress Billie Piper has criticized the current trend of thin celebrities like singer Victoria Beckham by labeling them bad role models for teenagers.

The 24-year-old "Mansfield Park" actress, whose younger sister reportedly emulates the former Spice Girl, said the ongoing trend towards skinnier celebrities is creating the wrong impression for teens, Sky News reported.

"I think the whole size zero debate is disgusting," the former singer said. "Some models you see are tiny because that's the way they were born, but then they'll get the attention and that will start feeding a fire."

Piper's comments come in part from her own previous struggles with anorexia, an problem that the former "Doctor Who" actress says has not been an issue since her breakup from radio personality Chris Evans.

"It's not a continual struggle any more," Piper said. "I have so many brilliant things going on and I just want to enjoy them."
