Combs fighting Canadian counterfeiting

TORONTO, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs is fighting Canadian counterfeiting of his new clothing line.

The rapper and producer launched the "Don't Buy a Lie" campaign Tuesday, intended to promote awareness of counterfeiting in Canada, AllHipHop.com reported.

"Canadian consumers need to know what they are buying is authentic," said Sean John Canada executive Rosa Costa in a statement. "Counterfeits are poorly constructed, made of cheap fabric and use flimsy hardware. They do not deliver Sean John's hallmark of high quality; and we are committed to driving awareness as we do not want our consumers fooled."

The campaign -- aimed at stopping millions of dollars in revenue lost to counterfeiting -- is being supported by retailers, consumers and celebrities such as NBA star Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors.
