CNN's Cooper gets shot at '60 Minutes'

NEW YORK, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- CNN's Anderson Cooper, whose popularity catapulted up after his Hurricane Katrina coverage, will debut on CBS's "60 Minutes" in New York this Sunday.

The New York Daily News reported Thursday that Cooper's "60 Minutes" stories would air on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360" show after they have appeared on CBS.

The powers that be at CNN begrudgingly told Cooper that he could moonlight at the prestigious and venerable news show "only if it didn't interfere with his day job," which means that Cooper has put together this upcoming segment on weekends and vacation days.

Cooper's gig this weekend will feature an interview with Abu Ghraib whistleblower U.S. Army Sgt. Joe Darby, the individual who turned over the now-infamous photos of U.S. guards abusing prisoners there. He will explore the ongoing plight of Darby and his wife, who have remained in a frightened state of hiding.

Cooper, whose participation is a tryout of sorts in the wake of Ed Bradley's death, worked on the story with associate producer Casey Morgan and longtime "60 Minutes" producer Bob Anderson, who originally had generated the story.
