The story revolves around a man's journey to find a talisman that holds the key to saving his mother's life. With his travels taking him through a parallel universe in which he is forced to battle demonic forces.

"The Talisman" was previously set up to be a DreamWorks film, with Ed Zwick last attached to direct but project was thrown out due to budget and creative concerns.

Kathleen Kennedy and Ehren Kruger will executive produce alongside Spielberg, with Kruger writing the adaptation as well.

"There is no one better to do this than Steven. If you look at the canon of his films, from 'Empire of the Sun' to 'A.I.,' he's mastered the story of young boys on a quest," said TNT Senior Vice President of Programming Michael Wright.
