Muse to break seal on new Wembley Stadium

LONDON, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- The British rock band Muse says it will perform the first stadium show at the new Wembley Stadium in London.

The "Black Holes and Revelations" band will serve as the locale's debut act on June 16, and while all figures are still tentative, Billboard.com reported that nearly 75,000 could attend the event.

Speaking during the band's ongoing 39-date tour of Britain and Europe, Muse drummer Dominic Howard said that the chance to launch the stadium's rebirth was an honor.

"It's something we've dreamed of in the past," Howard admitted, "and now definitely seems the right time to do it. It's going to be amazing, overwhelming."

The announcement is the most recent attempt to launch the rebuilt stadium since the U.S. rock band Bon Jovi was forced to cancel its 2006 launch date due to construction delays.

Billboard.com said shows from the Rolling Stones, Take That and singer Robbie Williams suffered a similar fate as well.
