John Krasinski eyeing 'Leatherheads' role

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- After becoming popular on the hit U.S. TV series "The Office," actor John Krasinski is said to be negotiating for a role in the film, "Leatherheads."

The 27-year-old actor, who plays Jim Halpert on the NBC comedy, is close to joining actors George Clooney and Renee Zellweger in the comedic football film, the Hollywood Reporter said.

If he does join the production that Clooney is also directing, Krasinski would play a 1920s college football star who attempts to make the leap to the professional level.

Clooney would portray the owner of the pro team who recruits Krasinski's character, while Zellweger would round out a romantic triangle as the recruit's fiance.

The film role would not be the first for Krasinski though, who is set to star in the comedy "License to Wed" from Warner Bros. Pictures and who has had roles in films such as "For Your Consideration," "Dreamgirls" and "The Holiday."
