Bono has meeting with Japanese P.M.

TOKYO, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Bono, the rock star who has made poverty his cause, says he trusts Japan to fulfill the promises its leaders made at the 2005 G8 meeting.

At a news conference Wednesday after a meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Bono said he found Abe to be a very warm man.

"He is very interested in looking at aid and development issues with new eyes," Bono said.

Japan promised to double its aid to Africa during the meeting in Scotland.

Bono also said he was pleased that Abe not only accepted a pair of Armani sunglasses from him but put them on, something U.S. President George W. Bush did not do.

"The last pope, John Paul, he put them on, and Prime Minister Abe. Very cool," Bono said.
