STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Swedish officials have revealed the official opening of Stockholm's ABBA museum will take place nearly two years from now.
After years of lobbying from fans of the iconic Scandinavian band for an honorary locale in Sweden, the museum will make its official debut in 2008, The Times of London reported.
"This is what Stockholmers have been missing," Stockholm Mayor Kristina Axen Olin said. "We are convinced that the museum is important, both for Stockholm citizens and for marketing the city."
To date, the disco group has sold more than 370 million albums placing them behind only the Beatles and Elvis Presley, both of whom have their own honorary locales in their places of birth.
"It is nice that someone feels compelled to take on our musical history," a statement from ABBA said of the museum's founders, Ulf Westman and Ewa Wigenheim-Westman. "We have a lot of confidence in Ewa and Ulf and we hope and believe that it will be a fun and groovy museum to visit."
The Times said the museum will feature several of the band's gold records, instruments and handwritten song lyrics.
