Streisand tour sets box office records

NEW YORK, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Barbara Streisand's recent U.S. tour set new box office records for 14 of her 16 concerts.

In total, the 64-year-old singer's tour grossed more than $92.45 million and while amassing that sum, Streisand took the top three grosses at New York's Madison Square Garden and the top two at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Billboard.com reported.

The record-setting numbers come after initial reports that the "Just for the Record" singer's tour was meeting with slow ticket sales, rumors that tour operator Michael Cohl said makes the success that much sweeter.

"I say 'nay' to the nay-sayers," he said of the show's success. "That was probably one of the most satisfying parts of the whole thing. But the most satisfying part for me was how amazing the show was. I watched every night and I loved it. I'd never seen her in concert and she was sensational."

The Web site said that Cohl would not confirm that the singer would take to the road again in 2007, but did admit Streisand was considering it as well as several dates overseas.
