LONDON, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Scottish author Irvine Welsh is one of a dozen nominees whose allegedly inadequate sensual prose will be considered for the Bad Sex Award in London.
The author of "Trainspotting" and 11 of his fellow authors have been named as finalists for the Literary Review's annual award for awkward literary attempts at lovemaking, yet only one will finish first at the In and Out Club Dec. 1, the Daily Mail reported.
For their use of double entendres and poorly constructed love scenes, authors such as Mark Haddon, Julia Glass, David Mitchell, Will Self and others will join Welsh as nominees for the prestigious award, the newspaper said.
While the annual event, now in its fourteenth year, nominates a group of writers for the award, poet Sarah Jane Lovett admitted the winner is typically the writer who actually attends the event.
"Whoever dares to turn up usually gets the prize," Lovett, who will be a guest reader at the ceremony, told the paper.
