'Christmas Story' house opens for tours

CLEVELAND, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The Cleveland home used in the classic 1983 film "A Christmas Story" has been renovated to its original movie appearance and will open up for guests.

A Saturday news release from "Christmas Story House" said that its owner, Brian Jones, unveiled the house and that several actors from the film were on hand as well.

Jones, 30, a big fan of the holiday-favorite movie, had purchased the home for $150,000 on Feb. 1, 2005 on an eBay auction, sight unseen.

"A Christmas Story" has become a holiday television staple in the United States. The film tells the story of little Ralphie Parker, played by Peter Billingsley, who desperately coveted a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas, even though he had been admonished by his parents, his teacher and even a department store Santa Clause that he would shoot his eye out if allowed to have the gun.

The house was renovated with funds Jones received from his online Web site that sells fishnet-stocking attired leg lamps like the one Ralphie's father, played by Darren McGavin, won in a contest, much to the consternation of his sweet wife, played by Melinda Dillon.
