'Happy Feet' penguins offer lessons, songs

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- When the new film "Happy Feet" hits U.S. theaters later this month, its animated singing penguins are said to offer lessons about our own humanity.

The film's director, George Miller, says "Happy Feet" follows in the tradition of many other previous animated works, by allowing its viewers to learn more about their own humanity while watching talking animals, said USA Today.

"Their spirit is so heroic," Miller said about the Emperor Penguins who serve as the animated leads of his film. "I'm not the first to say that animal-based stories allow us to see ourselves in another prism."

Comedian Robin Williams, who lent his voice to two of the animated penguins in the film, has a more lighthearted interpretation of the film's message.

"It's basically 'March of the Penguins' meets 'Riverdance,'" Williams explained. "Sure, there are a lot of talking animals out there. Dancing is better. Singing is nice."

The film, created with both motion-capture and computer animation techniques, is due for release Nov. 17.
