John Rich tops ASCAP Country Music Awards

NASHVILLE, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Singer John Rich was honored at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers awards ceremony as country music artist of the year.

During the Monday ceremony in Nashville, Rich performed alongside fellow country music singer John Anderson before accepting his award as ASCAP Songwriter/Artist of the Year for songs such as "Hicktown" and "Big Time," an ASCAP news release said.

Also at the 44th version of the popular awards show, Brett James, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson shared the honor of having their song "Jesus, Take the Wheel" being named the ASCAP song of the year.

James also shared Songwriter of the Year honors at Monday's ceremony with Rivers Rutherford, who was recognized for musical works such as "When I Get Where I'm Going."

For its eighth time in the ceremony's history, Sony/ATV Music Publishing took home the event's Publisher of the Year award for its 15 award-winning songs.
