Delta Burke takes to the stage

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Former U.S. TV star Delta Burke of "Designing Women" can now be seen on tour on stage in the Del Shores works "Southern Baptist Sissies" and "Sordid Lives."

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Burke's new path in her career, in which the former television star says she is very happy.

Del Shores, writer of television's "Queer as Folk" addresses gay issues in his works. Burke, who told the Post-Dispatch of her gay sister, said Shores has been a great friend.

A southern girl herself, Burke, 50, seems to fit the roles she plays in "Sissies" and "Sordid Lives," both of which have gay themes and are set against a southern backdrop.

In the 1980s sitcom "Designing Women," Burke played the memorable part of the pouty and glamorous Suzanne Sugarbaker.
