Comic Steve Wright ends long TV hiatus

NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Baby boomers, but not their kids, will remember the off-kilter comedy of Steven Wright, who stars in his first television appearance in 16 years.

The veteran stand-up comedian figured it was about time to get in front of the camera again, telling the New York Daily News: "I'd look out at my audiences and see people in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and I realized that people who are in college now were 5 when I did my last TV special. So this was a way to reach a younger group."

"Steven Wright: When the Leaves Blow Away" was scheduled for 9 p.m. Saturday on Comedy Central. It repeats Sunday and Monday nights.

Wright has kept himself busy out of the TV lineup, doing about 60 stand-up shows per year. He says he is also working on a book, a movie and some music ideas, although he wasn't specific about the projects, the Daily News said.
