'Fraggle Rock' to make big screen debut

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- More than two decades since it debuted on HBO, the children's TV series "Fraggle Rock" is set to undergo a Hollywood transformation for the big screen.

Jim Henson's Muppet-filled TV series, which premiered on HBO in 1983, will be adapted for the screen by Ahmet Zappa, son of rocker Frank Zappa, and Henson's children, Lisa and Brian, Zap2it.com reported.

The 32-year-old Zappa, who released the children's novel "The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless" earlier this year, has been signed on to write the feature film's screenplay.

Lisa Henson will serve as the film's producer as her brother and fellow Jim Henson Company head, Brian, teams with Jason Lust to take on executive producer duties.

"'Fraggle Rock' has remained a favorite project at our company and has certainly continued to be loved by its many devoted fans, so we are thrilled to begin work on this project," Lisa Henson told the Web site of the cinematic work. "With its message of celebrating diversity and its ambitious goal of promoting world peace, now is the perfect time to embark on a new Fraggle adventure."
