Olympics next for film director Ang Lee

BEIJING, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning director Ang Lee will next donate his considerable talents to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Lee, who won a best director Oscar last year for "Brokeback Mountain," has been hired by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad as an arts consultant for the 2008 international competition, Zap2it.com reported.

The Taiwanese director will join fellow film heads Zhang Yimou, who is leading the opening and closing ceremonies, and Steven Spielberg on a creative team aimed at bringing their unique visions to Olympic festivities.

Lee is currently heading a cinematic adaptation of Eileen Chang's short novel "Lust, Caution" focused on spies during World War II.

The Web site said that also joining the prestigious group as arts consultants are composer Wu Zuqiang and Chinese Olympic Committee President He Zhenliang.
