LOS ANGELES, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong said that no matter how much time they have been spending together in Los Angeles, they are not gay.

"We tried it. Wasn't for us," McConaughey told Details magazine, also dispelling the rumors that pal Jake Gyllenhaal, who actually starred as a gay cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain," is gay as well, reported Thursday.

Paparazzi have lately been taking pictures of McConaughey and Armstrong working out, and hanging out on the beach wearing very little.

The tabloids took this and decided to speculate that there were some underlying tender emotions involved.

"I think people see pictures and they think we're these overgrown frat guys," Armstrong said in an interview, "but we all have those kinds of relationships -- and relationship isn't a bad word. I mean, we all have buds, we all take guy trips, but you take something very normal and you put it in a magazine, and people start talking. It's like, either you sleep with anything that moves or you're gay. They can't figure it out."
