Madonna's new son from Malawi arrives

LONDON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- The 13-month-old Malawian boy that Madonna is trying to adopt arrived in London Tuesday morning in the company of a nanny.

David Banda was flown on a private jet to South Africa and then on to Heathrow airport where he arrived at 6 a.m., the Times of London reported Tuesday.

David was allowed leave Malawi after Madonna and her husband, Guy Ritchie, were granted an interim adoption order. David also received a passport and visa.

Madonna's spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, said, "It is expected that the family will be reunited within the next few days.

"The interim adoption grants David's new parents temporary custody for 18 months, during which time they will be evaluated by the courts of Malawi per the tribal customs of the country," she added.

Everything seems to be going well with the adoption, but human rights groups have filed court documents asking a judge to review the adoption, claiming it was speeded up due to Madonna's celebrity status.

Boniface Mandere, of Eye Of The Child, a child protection society in Malawi, said, "The court seems to have made a decision based on Madonna's wealth.
