Evans says she quit 'Dancing' for son

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Country singer Sara Evans said she quit U.S. TV's "Dancing with the Stars" for the welfare of her son.

In a pre-recorded interview broadcast during Tuesday's live show, Evans said something "very personal and traumatic" happened after last Wednesday's results show, forcing her to file for divorce because "things just went downhill at 100 mph."

She said family members told her she "can't leave your son" because he had been traumatized by the situation. She said if he tried to continue the show, "I think I would have had a nervous breakdown."

Evans accused her husband, Craig Schelske, of adultery with their nanny in divorce papers. The nanny, Alison Clinton Lee, however, told "Inside Edition" the allegations are false.

"He's a mentor, a really good friend. Never once did he make a pass at me," Lee said, adding she has no idea why Evans is making the accusations.

"I thought it was a joke -- I really did. I was like, 'Are you kidding me?' That is so far from the truth that I don't even know where it came from. I'm devastated by this," Lee said.

Schelske also has denied the allegations.
