Bob Dylan praises Twyla Tharp musical

NEW YORK, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Folk singer Bob Dylan says Twyla Tharp's Broadway show based on his songs is the "best representation" ever of his music.

"The Times They Are A-Changing" opens next week in New York.

Tharp, 65, crafted the show around 27 carefully chosen Dylan songs, the "CBS Evening News" reported Tuesday.

Tharp told anchor Katie Couric on Monday it was challenging to build around the balladeer's protest songs of the 1960s and come up with a show "relevant to right now without becoming sentimental or nostalgic about the '60s," CBS said.

Tharp -- who won a Tony Award for her Billy Joel-based musical "Movin' Out" -- said Dylan and Broadway fans should be prepared to see something "different."

The story centers around the relationship between a father and son against the backdrop of a traveling circus.

It could even be billed as "Dylan meets Cirque du Soleil," CBS noted.
