Celebrities embracing Flat Stanley cutout

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- The Flat Stanley cutout has been on numerous adventures worldwide since its creation, but now the paper doll has been embraced by Hollywood celebrities.

While countless children worldwide have posed for photos with the famed cutout since its inception in 1964, the doll has found its way into the hands of macho film stars Clint Eastwood and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Los Angeles Times said.

The cutout, made famous by a children's book from author Jeff Brown -- Stanley is a boy who is flattened by a bulletin board, but makes the most of his situation -- made an appearance at the 2005 Academy Awards when Eastwood carried it as a favor to his daughter and it has now become a regular with Schwarzenegger.

The governor has taken to displaying the paper doll at area appearances. He got the cutout from his 9-year-old son Christopher, and even brought it with him to a recent filming of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

Flat Stanley Project founder Dale Hubert, a Canadian teacher using the cutout to teach children letter-writing, said he is still hoping for more.

"I'm hoping for a Flat Stanley sighting with the royal family in England," he told the Times.
