Military blog by 'Doonesbury' creator

NEW YORK, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- "Doonesbury" creator and New York resident Garry Trudeau has launched a weblog for U.S. soldiers and their families to talk about conditions in Iraq.

The Sandbox military weblog -- separate from Trudeau's "Doonesbury" strip -- is a forum for soldiers, family and souses to discuss "the unclassified details of deployment -- the everyday, the extraordinary, the wonderful, the messed-up, the absurd," The New York Daily News reports.

Early postings include a note from military wife who says vidcams and instant messaging are a great way to maintain contact with her husband but when he misses a regular communication, "You begin to picture all sorts of horrors," the News reports. That comment is similar to a recent "Doonesbury" story line.

A soldier writes about burning every piece of paper that could provide a clue to anything or anyone, and about walking outside at night as prayers blast over loudspeakers.

"I think Alfred Hitchcock would have loved this place at night," he writes. "The darkness is complete."
