Lil' Kim joins cause to help children

WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Rapper Lil' Kim, fresh out of a 10-month stay in prison, said the experience persuaded her to become involved in the guidance of foster children.

Allhiphop.com reported on Lil' Kim's recent trip to Washington, where she participated in the second annual Keeping the Promise to At-Risk Youth Conference. The annual forum implements mentoring and other educational programs to foster children and other at-risk youth.

"During that 10-month stay in prison I realized I had to become strongly involved in the children of our future so that they would not have to endure the struggles and pain that I had to go through during the difficult times in my life," said Kim.

At the conference, which included workshops on encouraging self-esteem, the psychology of foster children and racial disparities, Lil' Kim was joined by Sen. John Kerry, Princess Dalal Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia, and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of the group Run DMC.

McDaniels told Allhiphop.com that he became involved in the cause after finding out he was adopted.
