The International Emmys in New York

CANNES, France, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- British TV led the International Emmy Awards nominations announced in Cannes, France, Monday with 17 nods.

British TV shows received nominations in each Emmy category, Daily Variety reported. The winners will be revealed during the International Emmy Awards ceremony Nov. 20 in New York.

Germany and Brazil each received five nominations while French programs received three nominations.

Competing for best drama are Britain's "Life on Mars" and Granada's "Vincent" along with Brazil's, "Little Missy" and "Mandrake."

Also in the running is the BBC's "The Virgin Queen," competing for best TV movie/miniseries with France's "Nuit Noire: October 17, 1961," Sweden's "The Crown Princess" and Brazil's "Filhos do Carnaval."

The best documentary category pits international co-production "Hiroshima," up against Britain's "9/11 The Falling Man," French nominee "How Putin Came to Power" and Germany's "The Search for Happiness."

"Little Britain" and "The IT Crowd" are Britain's nominees for best comedy, competing against Germany's "Paare" and "The Amateurs."
